Vivienne Beaumont:
Into the Woods - Needles and pins
At the heart of the Red Riding Hood tale is a maiden’s rite of passage. The Young girl is growing up, the mother is letting the daughter go on her own into the woods.
The innocent Red Riding Hood strays off the path, distracted by picking flowers. The story alludes to lose of virginity and the spilling of blood. The wolf traditionally plays the role of the sexual predator, but I portray the wolf as the protector, the threat is instead in the unknown and the darkness.
